EQUIPPING CLASSES
Sunday Mornings (9:30-10:40 AM)
OVERVIEW
Our Equipping Classes are designed to offer an adult education and discipleship program
that combines a relaxed adult Sunday school class with a Bible college education. Our
classes, held every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:40 am, are offered on a quarterly basis
each year (fall, winter, spring, and summer). Through a sequential study of key Christian
truths, our classes help our congregation grasp the scope of Christian doctrine and deepen
our devotion Christ.
OBJECTIVES:
At Hope Bible Church, we firmly believe that God’s Word is authoritative and sufficient for
every aspect of life. Consequently, we seek to teach the whole counsel of God and apply its
principles to our lives. We do this in order to help our congregation “grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
Our learning objectives are to grasp the truth of God’s Word so that we can grow in our
faith and minister more effectively to others. This program enables us to equip the body of
Christ to do the work of the ministry, and to glorify Him by being His witness to the world.
CLASSES:
There are core classes which are offered on a rotating basis to allow the participant to
complete an overview of the Bible, Theology, and Christian Life and Ministry. Electives are
also offered each quarter.
NEW CLASSES START SEPTEMBER 7TH:
Fall Quarter | September - December, 2025
HBC Teaching Lab
Teacher: Alan Plumley
Description: This is a new class designed to help members who are already teaching Bible lessons in some context or who aspire to do so (e.g., in small groups, classes, men’s or women’s groups, one-on-one discipleship, etc.) to become better prepared to use Scripture well in their teaching. It’s a “Lab” in that each student will practice what they’re learning by preparing and presenting to the class two 10-minute lessons on an assigned Bible passage or topic followed by helpful critiques from an elder and other class participants. Homework will include moderate reading and the study and preparation for the two presentations. Because of the limited time available for presentations in the quarter, this class will be limited to just 20 fully participating students on a first-come-first-served basis. Some students have already been invited and registered, but we are opening it up to everyone to register in advance if they are interested. (No walk-ins will be permitted, and even some who register may need to be turned away if the class is already full.) Please don’t take this class if you have other commitments during the Fall Quarter Equipping Class time. The class will be taught by the elders. For more information, contact Pastor Alan at [email protected].
Paul’s 2nd & 3rd Missionary Journey with Application for the Church, Part 1
Teacher: Christopher Greene
Description: Explore with us as we study in depth Paul’s writings to the church in Thessalonica (2nd Missionary Journey) and the church in Corinth (3rd Missionary Journey), discussing relevant application to the church today, both corporately and as individuals. This is a 3-quarter series and you can join at any time.
What About Evil? A Defense of God’s Sovereign Glory
Teacher: Rob Thomson
Description: As a follower of Christ, you are commanded to always be “ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15). In this class we will study theodicy, or the ‘problem of evil’. How could a God who is both all-powerful and all-good allow evil into His creation? Where did evil come from and who is responsible for it? We will use the book, Defeating Evil: How God Glorifies Himself in a Dark World by Scott Christensen as a tool to help us establish a strong biblical foundation from which to stand firm, and answer confidently, when an unbeliever asks, “What about evil?”
Ephesians, Part 1
Teachers: Doug Baldridge, Scott Keen, Daniel Ragheb
Description: The book of Ephesians describes God’s beautiful purpose for those who are reconciled to Him and the church. Would you like to embrace this beautiful and blessed plan more deeply? Do you want to have a deeper comprehension of the blessing and riches of God’s love? Does your walk, your speech, or your prayers need to be sharpened? Join us as we study Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus on the relationship between theological truth and practical Christian living. This Equipping Class will cover two quarters. The expectation and hope is that, together, we will sink our roots in the rich doctrines of the Christian faith (chapters 1–3) that manifest themselves in our daily lives (chapters 4–6).
