EQUIPPING CLASSES
Sunday Mornings (9:30-10:40 AM)
OVERVIEW
Our Equipping Classes are designed to offer an adult education and discipleship program
that combines a relaxed adult Sunday school class with a Bible college education. Our
classes, held every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:40 am, are offered on a quarterly basis
each year (fall, winter, spring, and summer). Through a sequential study of key Christian
truths, our classes help our congregation grasp the scope of Christian doctrine and deepen
our devotion Christ.
OBJECTIVES:
At Hope Bible Church, we firmly believe that God’s Word is authoritative and sufficient for
every aspect of life. Consequently, we seek to teach the whole counsel of God and apply its
principles to our lives. We do this in order to help our congregation “grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
Our learning objectives are to grasp the truth of God’s Word so that we can grow in our
faith and minister more effectively to others. This program enables us to equip the body of
Christ to do the work of the ministry, and to glorify Him by being His witness to the world.
CLASSES:
There are core classes which are offered on a rotating basis to allow the participant to
complete an overview of the Bible, Theology, and Christian Life and Ministry. Electives are
also offered each quarter.

Genesis 12–50: The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
Teacher: Rob Thomson
Description: Follow God’s plan of redemption through history as God calls Abraham to leave his home and go to the Promised Land. God determined to call out a special people for Himself, and through that special people He would bless the whole world. Learn about the covenant that God made with Abraham and then with his descendants Isaac and Jacob. In Genesis 12–50, we will follow God’s sovereign purposes in the lives of the patriarchs.
Paul’s 2nd & 3rd Missionary Journey with Application for the Church, Part 3
Teacher: Christopher Greene
Description: Explore with us as we study in depth Paul’s writings to the church in Thessalonica (2nd Missionary Journey) and the church in Corinth (3rd Missionary Journey), discussing relevant application to the church today, both corporately and as individuals. This is a 3-quarter series and you can join at any time.
God's Will and Guidance
Teachers: Kerry Kane
Description: For the believing Christian the way to a sanctified life is obtained by obeying the commands of God through the grace of God. The question that we often ask is how do I know I am doing the will of God when I have to make decisions in life that are not spelled out in Scripture? Is there a choice that God would have me to make that I am not aware of? Can I make the wrong choice and miss out on God’s best for me? The other fundamental question that comes when seeking God’s will is how does God’s sovereignty and my free will work in decision making? There are blessings and trials that occur beyond our control and we know God is sovereign over these things. Yet how do we respond either to blessings or trials? Do we have any choices? Are the blessings or trials the result of our actions or attitudes? In this class we will look into free will and God’s sovereignty, and then study decision making and God’s will. Studying the Scriptures on these topics will enlighten us as to how we think and make decisions.
Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage
Teachers: Pastor Gabe Powell and Pastor Alan Plumley
Description: Sincere Christians hold a variety of views on divorce and remarriage after divorce. Does God ever permit divorce? If so, under what conditions, and what if a Christian gets an unpermitted divorce? If God never permits a divorce, how should we interpret key statements of Christ? How should Christians handle adultery on the part of their spouse? Is it ever okay to remarry after a divorce? Is there a higher standard for elders and deacons? All of these questions depend a lot on God’s design for marriage and how He has taught us to handle sin within marriage. Now that we have specific statements on these issues in What We Teach, Pastors Gabe Powell and Alan Plumley plan to answer these questions and more with in-depth biblical analysis.
